|Cradle of Life
Now that which was of the earth, lies here in these few ashes. These we now return to the earth, into the cradle of life, the womb of the world from which we were all brought forth. Life is a process in which we are all linked. We merge and reemerge. That which was earth returns to earth. That which was air returns to air. That which was water returns to water. That which was fire returns to fire. We cast these ashes that they may start life anew.
The light of God
___________, The Light of God Surrounds You
The Love of God Enfolds You
The Power of God Protects You
The Presence of God Watches Over You
Wherever You Are, God Is.
Our life did not begin with birth, It is not of the earth; And this that we call death, it is no more Than the opening and closing of a door—
| Beloved Place
We scatter _____________ ashes at a beloved place. No longer bound by this world, but a part of it. No longer tied to one place, one time, but free. Every time you feel the warm sunshine on your face, Every time you hear the rain softly falling outside your window, No matter where you are, no matter how far you travel in this big, wide open world, he/she will be all around you.
In scattering the ashes of ___________________ in this hallowed place, we think again of all that he/she meant and means to us. The gentle earth has been the chief support of humankind, since first they walked beneath the sun. To all human beings, to all living forms, the earth has ever provided the sustenance that is the staff of life. To that good earth we now return the ashes of our loved one. Rest in Peace.
| Twenty Third Psalm:
Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Psalm 23 The Bible
Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always did. Laugh as we always laughed, at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Let my name be ever the household word it always was, let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is unbroken continuity. All is well. Henry Scott Holland 1847-1918 Canon of St. Pauls Cathedral.
|Prayer for Scattering
As we return to the earth and sea from whence we came, Divine creator of all in heaven and on earth, we bring before you these last earthly remains, returned to you, to do with as you will, and to set free for all eternity; and to remind us that forever they shall live in the wind and the waves and on the earth in substance.
Even though the spirit is already with you, we ask that you receive these ashes of the one that you created, that you might create again from them life anew.
Ashes to Ashes
God, we commend to you the spirit of _______________, and commit his/her body to it’s final resting place – earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. May you bless and keep him/her , and may your countenance shine upon him/her and bring him/her peace.
Tenderly, reverently, we return the body of ________________ to Mother Earth, from whence all life comes, and to which all life returns. We wish him/her peace in Eternity. He/she has now entered the last sleep, free of pain, care and worry. But his/her spirit will live on in all who loved him/her.
Book of Matthew 11:28-30
And Jesus said: Come to me, all of you who are weary and overburdened, And I will give you rest. For I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
